BCSOF Luncheon Seminar - December 7, 2017
PIPEDA: Cyber Exposures and Canada's New Mandatory Privacy Breach Reporting Regulations - Are Businesses Prepared?
Speakers: Jill Shore and Sinziana Gutiu from the law firm Dolden Wallace Folick LLP.
In this informative lunch seminar, Jill and Sinziana will provide unique insight to Canada's upcoming new Mandatory Privacy Breach Reporting Provisions in PIPEDA, expected to come into law in early 2018. The new requirements will add new costs, risks and challenges for organizations, large and small.
We will also explore the kinds of cyber exposures involving personal information that could pose a “real risk of significant harm” as defined by the new PIPEDA requirements and trigger mandatory reporting and notification to the Privacy Commissioner and affected individuals, as well as potential consequences for non-compliance.
Finally, we will take a look at trends in cyber liability, including recent interesting cases of privacy breaches arising from cyber exposures resulting in class actions lawsuits.
This luncheon qualifies for one hour technical credit.
