Reconciliation Through Time: Past, Present and Future Perspectives
Explore the evolving journey of reconciliation, equity, inclusion and diversity through the voices of two First Nations communities in British Columbia. This session will provide a risk narrative that spans three key temporal perspectives:
Past – Lear about the historical context, traditional practices, and the profound impact of colonialism on these communities. Understand the roots of inequity and the long-standing struggles for recognition and justice.
Present – Engage with the current efforts and initiatives that the First Nations are undertaking to promote reconciliation, equity and inclusion. This includes community-let programs, partnerships with governments and organizations, and the ongoing challenges they face in a modern context.
Future: Envision a path forward, guided by the aspirations and strategies of these communities for the next generations. Discuss the role of innovation, youth leadership, and policy changes in shaping the future where reconciliation is fully realized, and diversity is celebrated.
This session offers an opportunity to gain deep insights from Indigenous leaders and knowledge keepers, fostering a broader understanding o how past experiences inform present actions and future goals. Attendees will leave with actionable ideas to support reconciliation efforts in their own spheres of influence.
The event will consist of the panel discussion and a networking/social time over a catered lunch, to kick off the RIMS Canada Conference for BCRIMA members.
